Snow Day Photo Shoot

We had a little photo shoot at our house today since the photographer was not at work.

She rolled over onto the hard floor and bumped her head.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures of my baby girl!

Adeline is rolling over!

Adeline rolled over for the first time last night and I missed it. Jon tried to get her to do it again, but she wouldn't so I figured it was a fluke. However, today, she has done it probably 10 or more times. I really think it's intentional! She does it almost every time we try to get her to do tummy time. I'm so excited!

Weekend of Outings

We started off the weekend by meeting Shane, Juliet, Jarrod, and Becca at the Catfish Hole. It was packed! We didn't even have room to have the car-seat, so we had to hold Adeline all through dinner. They were also having some U of A recruitment and everyone kept calling the Hogs while we were there, so it was LOUD. Dinner time is usually Adeline's fussy time of day, so I was afraid we were really in for it. However, I think the noise soothed her to sleep.

She fell asleep in Jon's arms while we were visiting.

Saturday we slept in, then headed to Sam's and Wal-Mart. You know I told you how I like to let Jon dress Adeline when he's home. He came in the kitchen after dressing her on Saturday saying, "She's a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl."

Sweet little face

We have to make a trip to Sam's about once a month to buy dog food so Jon always tries to plan it around lunch. He loves the hotdog combo from there and I always indulge in the big greasy slice of pizza. I usually buy groceries for the week on Monday now that I'm not working, but I needed Jon this week. We decided to take back all the Huggies my mom had bought for Adeline. My mom started buying diapers every time she went to the store as soon as she found out I was pregnant (she just bought random brands). We had A LOT of diapers, but the Huggies just don't work. Every time we'd put one on Adeline, it would leak. Pampers have been the best for us. Soooo....we decided to go ahead and return ALL the Huggies. Now for some reason, Huggies were what she bought the most of. We filled up 2 whole shopping carts with diapers! It was quite hilarious. Everyone I walked past on my way to customer service was saying, "That's a lot of diapers." I just wonder what they were thinking. We ended up getting almost $300 on a gift card that I'm going to save solely for the purpose of buying diapers. I was not about to leave the store with 2 buggies full of Pampers..lol. Oh how I wish I would have gotten a picture..I was a sight to see.

Saturday night, Jarrod came over and we made chili..yummy! I love chili and it was the perfect day for it, cold & wet.

We did more Tummy Time and played the Wii.

And today we WENT TO CHURCH! It was wonderful! I was so very glad to go back. Adeline was a perfect angel. She was awake for the singing and slept through the sermon. We had plans to stay for Sunday School, but we forgot to take the nipple for the bottle so had to head home before she got hungry and fussy. (I have so far managed to not have to breast feed in public) In the past, we never managed to leave the house at the time Jon wanted. Yesterday when I told him I was going to get up at 7, get ready, then wake her up at 8, feed her, get her dressed and be out the door by 8:50, he said, "How do you think you're going to do that? You got up at 7 before we had her and we never left by 8:50." Well, I'll have you know, as we were pulling out of the driveway, Jon said, "Well look at that." The clock said 8:49! I was so proud of myself. I knew I could do it if I just put my mind to it. He was a big help this morning, though!

We even took some pictures before we left!

The flash makes her eyes do funny things. :)

This afternoon the sun decided to shine, so we gathered up the whole family and took a walk. I told Jon that everyone driving by must be getting a good laugh at us. Jon's walking 2 big Golden Retrievers and I'm pushing a stroller and walking a little Maltese. It was pretty chilly out, so we bundled Adeline up. She got so toasty that she fell asleep, and stayed asleep even after we got home.

We had a great weekend. I wish Jon didn't have to go back to work tomorrow, but I'm very thankful he has a job so that I can stay home with my sweet girl.

What have we been up to?

This has been a fairly busy week for us. You all know about Adeline's 2 month appointment on Monday. Then Monday night I had bunco. I had so much fun. I play bunco with a group of women who are mostly all therapists of some sort once a month. I always look forward to it, but I was really looking forward to it this time. I hadn't been since Adeline was born and I needed a night of hanging out with friends. Tuesday I worked and some friends brought dinner over that night. Adeline got to meet a potential future boyfriend, Noah. He was really enamored with her, but she wouldn't even look at him. Jon told her to just keep that up..haha. Noah's one month older than Adeline, and it was amazing to see how well he controls his head and pays more attention to his surroundings. They change so fast! Wednesday, Adeline and I went to the grocery store and then to visit a friend in the hospital who just had twin girls! I can't wait until they're old enough for play dates. We are just going to have so much fun! Thursday, Adeline and I went to visit the people at my old work and then we went to my new work so I could get some paperwork done. She was such a good girl.

This week I have also started back working out diligently. I managed to work out every day this week! Most days I would get up before Adeline and get it over with, but today I slept in. I made her do her exercises while I was exercising. She did some tummy time and lots of kicking.

Two nights this week she slept from 8:30pm-5am, then back down after eating until 9am. However, last night she was very restless. I heard her in there moving around at 11, 2, 3, and at 4 I knew she was wide awake. I went in to check on her and she had kicked her legs free of the swaddle and as soon as she saw me peek over the crib she got a huge grin on her face and said, "aaah." Like, I'm so proud of myself, look what I did. It was so adorable I had to laugh, even though it was 4 in the morning. I went ahead and fed her and she went back down until 9 this morning. I guess I shouldn't complain. I know a lot of babies her age are nowhere near sleeping that long at night. It's just that once you get used to something, it's hard to be woken up several times a night again.

Although my life is so much harder now and I'm a lot more tired all the time, I absolutely love it. I look at my sweet little girl and feel like my heart might explode with the amount of love I feel for her. When Jon puts her down at night I almost get sad that it's going to be several hours before I can hold her again (I know that sounds ridiculous). I am so very very thankful for her.

Adeline's 2 Month Appointment

Adeline had her 2 month doctor appointment today. The doctor said she's perfect, but I wasn't surprised. :) She weighs 11lb, 13oz which puts her in the 75th percentile for weight. Her head circumference is also in the 75th percentile. Also, she's 24 1/4 inches long, which puts her in the 95th percentile for height! That explains why 0-3 month outfits no longer fit. Looks like she's going to be tall like her daddy. She got three shots and some stuff squirted in her mouth. She did not like it! She screamed and screamed, but after she ate, she felt much better. I'm so glad that now we can go out in public.

Battle wounds, but they don't seem to be bothering her

My happy girl, but she wouldn't smile at all for the doctor.

Why?

Ok, so I need some answers from all you moms out there. For almost two weeks in a row, Adeline slept through the night. I mean somewhere between 7-9 hours at a time. Then, starting Wednesday night, she has been waking up every night around 2-3 wanting to eat. Why do you think this is?

Closets, Skulls, & Donkeys

Here's the closet picture I promised. Before I reorganized, all of Adeline's clothes were hanging from one rod in the closet. The bigger clothes were in a box at the top of her closet. Everything that was too big still had tags, etc. Now she's kind of in between 0-3 & 3-6 month clothes, so this was starting to get confusing in the closet. Half of the 3-6 month things still had the tags on it. I decided to remedy this situation. I was tired of wanting to put something on her, but it not being washed yet. I wanted everything out where I could see it and know what size it was at first glance. I also had a ton of blankets on the shelves in her closet. We don't use these on a regular basis, so I decided to put them on the top shelf and move her pants and shoes to the shelves.

The end result

Adeline's Aunt Kiersten made her this onesie. A lot of people in my generation have a totally different view of skulls and crossbones than those in say, our parents'. I know my mom will not be happy when she sees her granddaughter in this, but I think it's cute. Uncle Emil designed it and Kiersten stitched it. Notice the paci & eyelashes.

Adeline and I traveled to my hometown to visit family today. Jon will join us tomorrow night when he gets off work (I wanted a little extra time at home). My mom's office is on my grandpa's farm. Right behind her office is a cow pasture and this one lone donkey. Mom feeds it everyday. We took Adeline out to see it. She wasn't very impressed.

Adeline loves her Pappy.

Oh no...

I've really been a slacker on posting this week! I was all set to give you a post on Adeline's closet make-over, but when I went to take an "after" picture, the battery on my camera died. I guess I'll have to do that at a later date. I feel like this week has been extremely busy, and all I've really done is accomplish one major thing a day. Monday I started working out again (I started the week after Christmas, but then I was sick all last week so didn't do it), then Adeline and I went grocery shopping. Tuesday I completely re-organized Adeline's closet. I'll post more about that later. I also started back to work on Tuesday. Now, I use the term "work" very loosely. When I was still pregnant, I worked full-time at HealthSouth Rehab and two nights a week at Children's Therapy TEAM. After having Adeline, I decided to not go back to work full-time. I'm only going to work 3 days a week at CTT starting in April. However, I started back seeing the children I was seeing before maternity leave this week. That only means I'm working 3 hours a week (2 on Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday). The hours are in the evenings too, so Jon gets home from work in time to keep Adeline while I go work. Today, I worked out, did some laundry, got myself ready, and got dinner prep ready so I could quickly throw it together when I got home from work, then I went to work. It's been nice going to work this week. I absolutely love what I do and I know it's what God wants me to do with my life. However, I am glad that it's only for 3 hours a week right now. I just miss my girl so much while I'm gone! Tomorrow, Adeline and I are making the 4 hour trek home to see family all by ourselves! Jon is meeting us there Friday night, but I wanted a little extra time at home. Please keep us in your prayers as this will be the first time I've driven further than the grocery store with Adeline by myself.

Shopping Spree

By the time yesterday rolled around, I was certifiably stir crazy! I had not left the house since the previous Friday and I needed to get out. Jon had gone home Thursday afternoon for a funeral, also, so not only was I stuck in the house, but I was a single parent for 48 hours. Let me just say, that was tough. I am so thankful for my wonderful husband. Anyway, back to my shopping spree. I called my friend Shannon and told her I really needed to be a part of society, so we planned a lunch date and a trip to the mall. We had so much fun! I went to the mall with the intention of buying Adeline a couple more zip-up sleepers in 3-6 month size, however, it's January, so everything is on sale. I ended up with a LOT more than a couple sleepers. I can't wait until she's just a little bit bigger and can wear everything I just bought. There's one particular outfit I really can't wait to debut. ;) I also bought a few things for myself.

Yesterday was also good for me in that I got dressed in real clothes and put on make-up. I take a shower every day and I always try to at least put on mascara, but I'm usually only in sweats. It was great to feel like a human again. When Adeline and I got home, Jon was here so I fed Adeline, changed into some clothes I bought and we headed out to dinner with Shane & Juliet.

See my skinny jeans? No, they're not black, just very dark. They're my very first pair ever and I only paid $10 for them!

2 Months Old

Today Adeline is 2 months old! Sometimes it feels like the past 2 months have flown by, some days, not so much. Today has been one of those days. She has not been happy much at all today. My Baby Whisperer tricks were not working today. It's now 6:45pm and I caved...she's asleep in her swing. :/ Maybe it's just because she's been sleeping so much more at night, so she's not wanting to take as many daytime naps. Who knows...

Adeline watching me make breakfast

Tummy Time

This picture makes me giggle

Notice the baby acne? It just showed up like a week ago! It looks painful, but it doesn't seem to bother her. Did your baby have it? Did you do anything to treat it?

At 2 months she is smiling all the time, especially at her daddy. She hates tummy time and will almost roll herself over out of pure frustration at being on her stomach. The past 3 nights she has slept 7 hours in a row! She is now not afraid of her crib, but would much rather be in Mommy's arms than in her bed. She makes lots of adorable baby sounds. We are looking forward to her 2 month appointment to find out her height & weight percentiles. I am not, however, looking forward to the shots. I hear it's awful. We've decided to not attend church or take her to any big gatherings until after these shots. I don't want her getting sick anymore. This week has been tough. So, after January 18, we'll be back amongst civilization. I'm looking forward to it!

Happy 2 Month Birthday, Baby Girl! I love love love you!!

Adeline's Hair

I've been snowed in for the past 5 days, so I haven't encountered much to blog about. I decided to dedicate a post to Adeline's hair. It seems to be her most talked-about feature. In case you haven't noticed, it sticks straight up at her crown. Like stands on end as if she's been electrocuted. When we were still in the hospital, it didn't do this. It was all thick and beautiful and manageable. We got home, gave her a bath, and it hasn't laid down since. Don't get me wrong. I love it. I think it's absolutely adorable. I wouldn't change it for the world. I just hope it starts behaving before she's able to feel self-conscious. :)

It's also kind of a reddish color. This is surprising to me. Jon and I were both born with very dark brown hair. Then mine fell out and came back as blonde as could be and Jon's has stayed dark. However, my hair has recently gotten a reddish tint to it and Jon's facial hair is slightly red. I guess that's where she gets it.

Adeline's hair also has two features that I'm very thankful for. She does NOT have a double crown like me. I don't know if you all know what I'm talking about, but that little swirl of hair on the back of your head, I have two. Most people only have one. This isn't that big of a deal now, but when I first started fixing my own hair it used to drive me crazy! I don't want Adeline to have to go through that. Also, her hairline begins in a normal place, giving her a very small, pretty forehead, unlike me, who has a fivehead (hence why you'll probably never see me without bangs, although I'm well aware that they're uncool).

Her beautiful mohawk

A side view (also note her cute double chin)

What have you been doing to occupy your time in hibernation?

Sick Day

Adeline and I are both under the weather. I was awake nearly all Monday night coughing and sneezing. Poor little Adeline is sleeping well, but she sounds awful. I have to suction out her nose constantly, which she absolutely HATES. Yesterday she was coughing and sneezing and getting choked up, so I decided it was time to go to the doctor. She was not running a fever, but I was still worried. Well, the doctor said it's just a mild cold and there's nothing I can give her since she's so young. We elevated her crib mattress on one end, and I'm still sucking all the boogers out of her nose around the clock. Today she is very sleepy, but she's still eating well. I'm feeling much better today. I think we may be on the mend. We have a long weekend of being trapped in the house in store for us. We're supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow & ice tonight and it's not supposed to get above freezing until Sunday. It's probably a good thing, though so we can stay home and rest and get well.

Fits & Frogs

So, after reading Jessica's comment on Sunday, we headed to the library to check out Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. I spent nearly all that evening and most of yesterday reading it. By yesterday afternoon, I was ready to begin implementing its plan. It's all about watching your baby for cues. When she starts to yawn, it means she's tired and needs to be put in her crib then so that she can go to sleep on her own. I've been doing it all wrong. Before I read the book yesterday, I was rocking Adeline to sleep then putting her in the crib and she would wake up within 20 minutes screaming bloody murder. The Baby Whisperer says this is cruel. It's like if someone drug your bed out into the yard while you were sleeping. It scares a baby to go to sleep in your arms and wake up in a strange place. So, anyway, you watch to see when they're tired (yawning is the first sign, staring into space is the next). Then you go lay them down. You do NOT let them cry it out, which is my favorite part of this book. You go to them and comfort them, but you leave as soon as the crying stops. You don't even pick them up if you can get them to stop crying without it. She's also all about rituals, especially a bedtime ritual. She suggests bathing your baby every night as a way to calm them down before bed. You do this after their 5-6pm feeding. So, that's what we did. Then it was off to bed she went. Yes, her own crib! I had to go comfort her and give her the paci approximately 5 times, but then it was off to dreamland she went! I woke her up again at 9:30 and she ate while still asleep (another idea from the Whisperer), then she went right back to her bed. I stayed up late watching the Frogs, so I fed her again at 11:30. She woke up this time, but went right back to sleep in her crib when feeding and diapering were done. She slept in there until 5am! I am so so happy. I'm so glad that it seems like I've found something that works and that makes us both happy.

As far as the Frogs go, I am not so so happy, but I still love them. They had a great season. I'll leave you with some pictures of Adeline and me cheering them on.

Rah Rah TCU!

Our Long Weekend

We enjoyed a long weekend of doing nothing. It was great. Jon only had to work a few hours on Thursday, then he was off the rest of the weekend. It was so nice having him home. He is such a big help with Adeline. It amazes me how wonderful a Daddy he is.

When Jon is home, I usually let him decide what Adeline is wearing. I don't know how much longer this will last, but I think it's nice. I have a hard enough time deciding what to wear myself, so it's nice to have someone else make that decision for Adeline.

This particular time, Jon came into the living room after dressing Adeline saying, "Ok Mommy, I'm ready to go to the country club to play some tennis." She looked so cute in her little pink Polo onesie, but I told him we were not going to let her pop her collar. :) That night, NYE, we went out to eat and rented a movie.

We have a routine of Jon rocking Adeline every night while I'm taking a bubble bath or getting ready for bed. When I got out of the bath this night, I found them both almost asleep.

Friday, we ran a few errands then hosted a New Year's Day dinner at our house. It was just us, Jarrod, and Becca, but still a nice dinner party.

Jon thought he'd be funny and put Adeline in his overalls while he was cooking. I have to admit, it is pretty comical.

Saturday, we didn't leave the house. We watched 2 different movies and I played on the computer a lot. Watching 2 movies in one day is a feat for us, since it usually takes a week to finish one.

We all took naps, too.

It makes me so happy to see Adeline putting on weight. I don't know why, but it just makes me feel like a good mom. We lovingly call her our "Chunky Monkey" but I told Jon we had to stop once she was able to understand us.

Sunday we woke up to snow everywhere! Being from Texas, this is the most snow I've ever seen except for the time I went snow skiing.

We took Adeline out to see it, only after bundling her up like a little Eskimo.

We even went for a walk around the block, then Jon continued on with the big dogs so they could run around at the park.

They had so much fun.

I left something out from the weekend. Sunday night, Shane & Juliet came over. We had pizza, salad, and snow ice cream. This is a little concoction Juliet makes every year when it snows. If you're interested in making it, let me know and I'll get the recipe from her.

Today I woke up not feeling so well. Jon and Adeline both started getting a little congested last week. I also had a little tickle in my throat some last week, but I was in denial. I have some strange theories about being sick. I get these from my dad who believes you will get sick if you sleep in socks and that you can only eat soup if you're sick. Although I don't agree with his ideas, I have some weird ones of my own. I sometimes believe it's all about mind over matter and I will continue to tell myself that I'm not sick. I also think that once you are sick, drinking lots of water will cure you. Jon is feeling better and I'm pretty sure Adeline is on the mend, too. However, today, I will admit that I am officially sick. So I'm sitting on the couch drinking water like there's no tomorrow. :) Were you able to enjoy a long weekend?
