Contentment

Today at church our pastor talked about being content with our current lives.  He answered the question of why we should feel good about where we are in life.

He preached from Acts 17: 26-27
From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

I absolutely loved the sermon and felt compelled to share some of the high points on my blog.  Even if no one else reads it, I will have it for me to re-read at some critical point in my life.

I feel like negativity has become such a problem in today's society.  When we talk with friends or browse facebook it's like one complaint after another.  Who can top who on whose life is the worst?  I try so hard not to be sucked into this.  I am so so so blessed.  What could I possibly complain about?  My child threw a temper tantrum at a restaurant and embarrassed me?  Thank you Lord for blessing me with children!  I have to work all day then get up and do it again tomorrow?  Thank you God for providing me with a job in today's economy!  I could go on and on.  It's so easy to complain.  My goal is to try to make it just as easy to see the positive side of things.

I have often wondered why did God chose for me to born in the 1980s and why was I born in America? How did I end up in Arkansas of all places?  Today's sermon helped me with those questions.  It doesn't matter why.  It matters that God chose it to be so, therefore I must exist in this time and place and seek him and try to bring others to Him.  This is my destiny.  Today, right now, I need to be doing what God wants me to do in this place and time that He put me in.

This is my challenge to myself & my prayer:
No more complaining....
Live for God now & not later when I'm not so busy...

Have a blessed, happy week!

  1. I remember Bro. Ken preaching on this same subject a few years ago. I needed it then and need a reminder often. It's easy to get caught up in the day to day stresses of life and forget to be content with all God has given us. You're right. We need to count our blessings and do our best to be all God wants us to be whenever he has put us. I love you and count you as one of my biggest blessings!
