5th Anniversary

Jon and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary this weekend.  The traditional gift for 5 years is wood.  How appropriate that we would spend the weekend at a cabin in the woods!  My parents got to our house Friday afternoon, then Jon and I headed to Eureka Springs for a quiet little getaway.  Our cabin was way out in the middle of nowhere right on Beaver Lake.  It was so nice and serene and secluded.  Almost too secluded.  It kind of made me a little scared.

Jon loves German food and drink.  I found this little Bavarian restaurant in Eureka Springs that I knew we had to go.  It was like a tiny little slice of our honeymoon in Munich all over again.

He kept wanting to go back there all weekend.  Hah!  After dinner we went downtown for some cheesecake then we trekked back out to our cabin (about 15 miles out of town, 5 of which down a dirt road) and watched a movie before bed.  About 4am the electricity went out.  I was terrified.  I was certain that someone had cut our power off since they knew we had no cellphone reception and only a cordless phone inside.  I laid in bed with my imagination running wild just certain that I was about to die for a few minutes before I decided if I wasn't going to get any sleep, neither was Jon.  I woke him and we waited for a little while hoping the power would come on.  We even called the lady we rented it from to make sure this wasn't a common problem and all we needed to do was flip a breaker switch or something.  When it seemed like it was going to be a while before the power came back on, we loaded up in the car and headed to town so I could find somewhere to pump.  Yes, I know.  It was starting off really badly.  The last thing I had imagined was waking up at 4am on my nice, kid-free weekend.  We made it to a hotel and I pumped in the lobby bathroom and then we trekked back out to our cabin.  Not long after crawling back into bed, the power came back on.  Yippee!  Our weekend was not ruined after-all!

Saturday we spent the morning sleeping in, drinking coffee out on the boat dock, and reading.  It was so luxurious!  We had a late lunch at a delicious restaurant called The Garden Bistro and spent the afternoon shopping and visiting Thorncrown Chapel.
Isn't it beautiful?

That night we ate another yummy dinner and watched another movie.  It was so nice to just relax and focus on each other!

Sunday morning my parents brought the girls to us and we all went out to Turpentine Creek to see the big cats.

After lunch, my parents headed back to Texas and we took the girls to the cabin for a nap.  When they woke up we tried to go swimming in the lake, but both girls cried because the water was too cold.  We knew we wouldn't be able to entertain them at the cabin all afternoon, so we went back in to town for a little hike out to the Natural Bridge & Pivot Rock.

Monday we ate a big breakfast and packed up and headed home.  We had such a fantastic weekend.  We kept saying how on one hand it doesn't seem like it's been five years since we got married, but on the other hand it does seem like it's been a while just because we've done so much in those five years.  I'm so blessed to be married to such an amazing man.  He really makes my world a happy place to live. I pray we celebrate many many many more anniversaries together!

    1. Carleigh, we did get it at Peace, Love & Cheesecake. We just split one piece so it wasn't too bad. :)
