The Girls' Room

So when I hit the third trimester a couple weeks ago and realized I still had NOTHING ready for Annabel, I kind of freaked out.  Well, nothing isn't quite true.  I had the crib and the bedding, they were both just still in boxes in the guest room.  So as my 4th of July weekend quickly approached, I decided I would devote that time to get my girls' room ready.

Let's start at the beginning....  When we found out we were having a girl, we decided they would share a room.  We only have 3 bedrooms, so if we made a separate nursery, then our guests would not have anywhere to sleep.  So then the planning began on how I would fit everything in their room.  I decided that in order to fit two cribs, we needed to consolidate the dresser/changing table.  I knew just the dresser...

My dad built this dresser for me when I was a little girl.  It has 6 big, deep drawers and a long top.  This would be perfect for my girls to both have an equal number of drawers and to fit a changing pad and various other necessities on top of it.

There were just a few glitches.  When my dad built this dresser, he was a very young cabinet-maker.  You make cabinets to have a cut out at the bottom for your feet to go in so you can stand close to your sink, or stovetop, or whatever.  It's not so great for a free-standing piece of furniture, because then it will easily tip over.  When my dad built it for me I was old enough to know to not open more than 1 or 2 drawers at a time.  I knew we needed some revisions for my babies.  So, my older, wiser, but still darn good carpenter daddy, fixed it so it wouldn't tip.

But it still needed to be hauled here....
That's where my wonderful mom & mother-in-law come in the picture.  Thanks so much, you two!

Then sanded, primed, & painted.... (Thanks, Jon, for sanding.)

That's where this very hot, but determined pregnant lady comes into the picture.  :)

And voila...
We get this very beautiful, safe, girly dresser with just the right amount of storage space!

We also finally got the crib put together and I think they both look just perfect together.

Apparently two years ago pink & green bedding was very popular, but not so much nowadays.  It took FOREVER for me to find bedding that would be its own and unique, but also coordinate with Adeline's.   I'm very happy with what I found.

I know you may think Adeline is getting too old to still be in a crib, but she's happy in her crib and we're happy with her staying there.  I don't want her growing up any faster than she already is.  Just because we're having another baby doesn't mean Adeline isn't still our baby too!

So anyway, Jon also brought down all the baby clothes from the attic on Sunday and I went through them and got out everything from newborn sizes to 3-6 months and hung it up in their closet.

I can't believe we're about to bring another little baby home.  We are so excited!
